The client for this project was the School of Theater, Television, and Film (TTF) at San Diego States University (SDSU). Myself and a group of five other student designers were tasked with providing our own solution for posters of 3 of the 5 performances to take place in the upcoming year.
Final Poster Series
I knew that for this project I would not be able to maintain my usual color palette of black and white since I needed to properly covey the mood of each individual performance. I did however want to maintain cohesion between the posters.
Early Iterations
The three posters were largely developed alongside one another so the process for each is fairly similar however, I began with Merrily We Roll Along in order to develop the style I world be using for all three.
You can see that my earliest attempts with color involved a single solid color behind a black image. I abandoned this idea in favor of using a gradient behind a colored image. This allowed me to capture the mood and themes of each play more effectively while differentiating the posters more.
